Jefferson Fellows Center Opens

After 18 months of construction the $20-million Jefferson Fellows Center is officially open. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation held a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday, April 16.

The Jefferson Fellows Center is made up of four buildings that surround a large courtyard. The facility offers graduate fellows a place to study, do research, teach and give lectures. The building was designed so fellows could easily interact with each other.

Jefferson fellow Justin Rose said, "One thing I like about it is that we have our own work spaces but then there are a lot of other spaces that we can use so we have an overlook, a balcony, a reading room so it's all been wonderful."

The building is also environmentally friendly. It uses a geothermal system for heating and cooling and the roof is designed to collect rainwater for irrigation.

Congrats VMDO! The center looks fabulous and I'm sure will be a great addition to the Jefferson Scholars Program.
